𝌎Avalanche

An avalanche is an archetypal event often seen in complex adaptive systems in which some quantity rising above a critical threshold precipitates a transformation that rapidly dissipates that quantity. Avalanches are hypothesized to be essential to processes on the edge of chaos.

  • biological neurons fire when membrane potential rises above a critical threshold
